Will Kiefer Sutherland Return as Jack Bauer in 24: Legacy?

Back in January, Fox announced a new24reboot, which would later be titled24: Legacy. But the network made it clear right from the beginning that the iconicJack Bauer, played byKiefer Sutherlandin the original series, would not return. The series has already castCorey Antonio Hawkinsas the lead character, Eric Carter, withMiranda OttoandAshley Thomasalso set to star.Rolling Stonerecently spoke withKiefer Sutherland, who reveals he signed on as an executive producer on24: Legacy, while teasing that Jack Bauer may in fact return. Here’s what he had to say, noting that he’s never again claiming to be “done” with the character.

“I’ve said that twice and have been wrong, so I won’t say that again. It’s a phenomenalscript. I think it’s going to be incredibly liberating for the writers to not have to figure out one more bad day for Jack Bauer. They get to write for new characters. And Bauer’s still out there, so you never know what’s going to happen.”

The story centers on Eric Carter, described as “tough and smart,” coming from a rough neighborhood before turning his life around and joining the Army Rangers. When the series begins, Eric is back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole (Anna Diop), when he is pulled back into action as his past catches up with him. Our report from January revealed that he asks the CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scaleterror attackson American soil.

Miranda Ottoplays thefemale lead, Rebecca Ingram, the former head of the CTU who is said to be having second thoughts about leaving the counter-terrorist unit. She is now married to Senator John Donovan, who will be played by Jimmy Smits.Ashley Thomasis playing Eric’s older brother Isaac, who has not been on good terms with Eric for years after he married Nicole, his ex-girlfriend.

The cast also includesTeddy Searsand Dan Bucatinsky, but no details have been given for their characters quite yet.Kiefer Sutherlandwill produce alongsideHoward Gordon(Homeland,24), Manny Coto (24) andEvan Katz(24), withproductionexpected to begin soon.
