Summary
Elden Ring’s long-awaitedShadow of the ErdtreeDLC is almost here, andthose looking to find out where the DLC takes place within the game now have their answer. The expansion has been a long time coming, and recent previews - including ahands-on preview fromScreen Rant- reveal that it’s more of exactly what was loved in the core game. The return to The Lands Between is looking to be greater than expected.
There are still mysteries to be solved before its launch, though, as fans wonder exactlyhow they’ll come to access the new content in-game. It’s a fair question to ask - after all, the bold andextensive world ofElden Ringallows players to go in any direction that fascinates them most, and by FromSoftware’s standards, to pick up directly at the end of the game’s main story would simply betoo easy.

Elden Ring Finally Confirms How Many Bosses Players Will Fight In Shadow of the Erdtree
After months of fan speculation, FromSoftware finally confirms the number of bosses included in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
Shadow of the Erdree Doesn’t Begin At The End Of Elden Ring
Players Have 2 Points To Pass Before Accessing The DLC
Players who haven’t yet taken Malenia down should be happy because it has been revealed in an interview with Famitsu thatShadow of the Erdtreewon’t require beating all the Elden Lords. Speaking to Famitsu (and as translated byFrontline Gaming Japan),Elden Ringdirector Hidetaka Miyazaki has revealed that players will gain access to the content buried inShadow of the Erdtreewhen they’vedefeated Starscourge Radahn, and once they’ve done that, beaten the optional boss Mohg Lord of Blood.
As Miyazaki explains in the interview, the “DLC’s area is not directly connected to the main game’s map, and is [accessed] via a warp, with the entrance being the withered arm hanging from the cocoon in the Mohg, Lord of Blood boss fight area.” Being optional, Mohg is a boss that some players have missed, but seeing asElden Ringis now over two years old, it’s likely the majority of fans have already passed this waypoint.Elden Ringis host to a lot of tough side bosses, and now, Mohg has practically stepped up to the plate as a mandatory boss for anyone trying to playShadow of the Erdtree.

Keeping the DLC being an optional boss is perhaps the fairest way thatElden Ringcan make the entry requirements for DLC. After all, people have paid for the right to experienceShadow of the Erdtree, and if they can’t beat Malenia, that doesn’t make them less worthy of playing the expansion.Shadow of the Erdtreeis exciting, but at the least, players are going to have to deal with the might of Mohg if they want to see what’s new inElden Ring.
Elden Ring
Elden Ring is a popular game released by From Software, creators of games such as Armored Core, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne. Players assume the role of a Tarnished, a being once exiled to the Lands Between and has returned to repair the Elden Ring after the events of “The Shattering.” “The Shattering” occurred when the offspring of Queen Marika battled to claim the shards of the Elden Ring, known as Great Runes. Their war has brought lawlessness, destruction, and chaos to the land, and the player will challenge them with the assistance of a Maiden known as Melina as they travel towards the great Erd Tree to face their destiny and to become the one true Elden Lord. Players can tackle the game how they choose and can adventure across realms as they build their character how they want - be it a powerful magic caster or a brutal swordsman - they will have complete control over their build.
