Call of Duty: World at War, a 2008 Treyarch release, debuted two years prior to the popularBlack Ops. This game was set in World War II and featured several popular characters in different battles. The remarkable originalModern Warfarepaved the way for the release of the game.

One of the game’s developers has confirmed a discarded idea that would have been a very controversial scenario to include in the title. Jessy Snyder, the inventor of the zombie mode in the franchise, described this particular mission, which involved Normandy Beach, from a German perspective.
Call of Duty: World at War Avoided a Great Controversy Before the Zombie Mode From Black Ops Became Popular
After the success ofModern Warfare, it was Treyarch’s turn to make another popular game in the franchise. The studio releasedCall of Duty: World at War, a game set in World War II with numerous characters to play with, including the famous Viktor Reznov. The popular Russian soldier, who later appeared onBlack Opsas one of the main characters, was involved in the franchise’s biggest plot twist.
Call of Duty Zombies was Inspired by an Unlikely 2D Top-Down Space Shooter Born from a Mini-Game in a Forgettable DC Racer
Jessy Snyder, the creator of the popular zombie mode, revealed a previously discarded missionthat World at War would have included. The franchise is accustomed to generating controversy occasionally, and this specific mission was no exception.
This particular mission would have involved controlling a German soldier shooting the allied forces on Normandy Beach; this would have generated a lot of controversy for the game.

Treyarch Is Always up to Breaking the Mold for This Kind of Title
The game nearly incorporated this concept. Snyder also detailed the scenario, describing how a German soldier would have been yelling at you about the ammunition. Subsequently, the beach will be teeming with soldiers—too numerous to manage, leading to their overwhelming presence. The mission will culminate in the game’s conclusion, as the credits begin to roll following the invasion of the bunker.
New Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Teaser Potentially Gives Us Our First Look at the Game’s Theme
Snyder described the end of the mission as follows:
A few seconds later, an explosion would rip through the bunker, knock you unconscious, and you’d be on the ground, facing up. An American squad would light up the place and a bad-ass US soldier would stop over you, slowly aim his gun at you and fire. Fade to black. Finish rolling the credits.
If this mission had happened, it would not have been the first to have this kind of controversy. “No Russian” literally makes you kill civilians.

Call of Duty: World at Warwas the first Treyarch game to include the popular zombie mode, and today it is almost a must-have in every game of the franchise. The first experience of this mode was raw and not as detailed as in future games, but in the end, players loved that mode and will welcome every variation of it.Black Ops 6will be the next big title in the franchise; it will be revealed on June 9.
