Warning: Major Spoilers forTotally KillerAhead
Totally Killeris the newest comedic slasher flick from Prime Video, and it doesn’t disappoint. The film follows Jamie Hughes (Kiernan Shipka) after she accidentally travelsback in time to 1987after narrowly escaping the infamous Sweet Sixteen Killer, who apparently has returned 35 years later. While in the past, she seeks to find out who the killer is and stop him, ultimately hoping to prevent her mother’s death in the future. She quickly encounters the teenage version of her mother, Pam (Olivia Holt), as well as the three friends, Tiffany (Liana Liberato), Heather (Anna Diaz), and Marisa (Stephi Chin-Salvo), who were/will be murdered as Halloween night approaches.
Upon showing up in the past, Jamie seeks the help of her best friend Amelia’s (Kelcey Mawema) mom, Lauren Creston (Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson), since it was Amelia who was working on the time machine in the future using her mother’s notes. While it might seem like Jamie has the upper hand, given her knowledge of how the murders will take place, she quickly realizes her actions are altering the future, which means she’s not able to “predict” what will happen next. When the murders begin to happen despite her efforts, she rallies her teenage mother and the rest of the gang to fight back and defend themselves. Given the surprising twists and turns thanks to theinvolvement of time travel, the identity of the Sweet Sixteen Killer isn’t so simple.

The Original Killer
Before time travel entered the picture, the story of the Sweet Sixteen Killer was fairly cut and dry. After the final attack when Jamie is still back in 1987, the groupmanages to kill the Sweet Sixteen Killerand ultimately reveals it’s their classmate Doug Summers (Nathaniel Appiah). They discover a locket around his neck with a picture of Trish, another classmate who died in a drunk driving accident the year before, and promptly realize the two were a couple.
Marisa then explains that Doug must have known about the sleepover she, Tiffany, and Heather lured Trish to so they could get her drunk and grill her about a rumor circulating regarding her promiscuity. After relentless teasing, Trish left while still intoxicated and ultimately crashed her car and died. Doug was simply the bereaved boyfriend seeking vengeance after the death of his girlfriend at the hands of Tiffany, Heather, and Marisa. Pam was never actually a target, which explains why she wasn’t killed along with her friends in 1987.

Clearly, there was nothing spectacular about the identity of the original Sweet Sixteen Killer. However, given Jamie’stime-traveling endeavorto 1987, as well as the dwindling interest in the murders in the future, the story of the Sweet Sixteen Killer doesn’t end there.

The Unexpected Twist
After the group kills Doug, someone inthe Sweet Sixteen Killer maskemerges from the shadows and murders Marisa. Jamie quickly notes it must be adult Doug from the future because the mask he’s wearing has the same mark as the one she damaged in the future when the Sweet Sixteen Killer attacked her. Although, given Doug’s recent death, it’s clearly someone else from the future. Without knowing the identity of the second Sweet Sixteen Killer, Jamie, and Lauren make a break for the time machine, which Lauren managed to construct, before their window of opportunity closes.
True to form, the second killer follows them inside the time machine, which happens to be a gravitron where Jamie must stay in the middle if she wants to make it back to the future in one piece. Otherwise, the centrifugal force of the time machine will turn her to dust. Lauren makes it out while the second killer and Jamie fight it out after Pam jumps in to help. Despite a stab wound from the second killer, Pam is thrust out of the time machine just in the knick of time.

The mask of the second Sweet Sixteen Killer is then ripped off, revealing adult Chris Dubasage (Jonathan Potts), whose podcast in the future centers around the Sweet Sixteen Killer from 1987. to maintain public interest in the murders as well as his podcast, Chris murdered Pam in the future dressed as the Sweet Sixteen Killer and even lied to Jamie about a supposed note that was left for Pam by the killer threatening her life.

When adult Chris in the future realizes Jamie might succeed in stopping the original Sweet Sixteen Killer, he highjacks Amelia’s reconstructed time machine to ensure the original three murders occur. Although he had no knowledge of who the original killer was, his adult obsession with the murders led him toembody the identityof Sweet Sixteen Killer in the hopes of creating a sort of boogeyman.

While in the time machine headed for the future, Jamie and Chris continue to battle until Chris ultimately meets his demise thanks to Jamie and the centrifugal force of the gravitron. She then returns home to a happy, slightly altered future in which her mother is alive, and there’s no more Sweet Sixteen Killer.
