The story is based on Philippe Petit’s bookTo Reach The Clouds, which previously served as the basis for the Oscar-winning documentaryMan on Wire.

The Walkis the true story of a young dreamer, Philippe Petit, and a band of unlikely recruits who together achieve the impossible: an illegal wire walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. With little more than nerve and blind ambition, Petit and his ragtag crew overcome daunting physical obstacles, betrayals, countless close calls and overwhelming odds to beat the system and execute their mad plan. Shortly after Philippe Petit ended his walk, he was arrested by New York authorities, although all of the charges were eventually dropped, under the condition that he perform a free aerial show for children in Central Park.

Twelve people have walked on the moon, but only one man-Philippe Petit-has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. It’s a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the towers of the World Trade Center. The supporting cast is rounded out byJames Badge Dale,Charlotte Le Bon,Ben Schwartz, Clément Sibony and César Domboy.

The Walkwill debut in an exclusive run in IMAX theaters starting Wednesday, September 30, before it opens nationwide on October 9.
