Publisher Private Division have announced the delay of the Nintendo Switch port of Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds due to the coronavirus.

The delay was announced due to the fact that the studio responsible for the port Virtuos have needed to close their studio doors for the time being in order to protect their developers during the outbreak of Coronavirus. Private Division announced today via Twitter:

An update for everyone about the Nintendo Switch port for#TheOuterWorlds. It will be delayed due to how the coronavirus has impacted the ability for the port team at Virtuos to work on the port; and it will now have a cartridge with it’s physical release.

Along with this news was the announcement that a physical release will now be made available at launch. Previously they had shared that only digital copies would be released and physical copies would only have a downloadable code in the box, but due to listening to the community a cartridge will now be available. The launch of The Outer Worlds on the Switch was originally set to launch on March 6th.

The coronavirus has impacted all areas of life in some places, and this isn’t the first announcement that has impacted the gaming industry. Nintendo today have also shared with their customers in Japan that the arrival of their products such as the Animal Crossing themed console would be delayed due to the production taking place in China.

Private Division also updated fans that the Virtuos team are in good health, and this move is just a precaution during this time. The studio remains closed and they will share a launch date when they know more. Virtous has previously worked on ports for the Switch which include games such asDark Souls: Remasteredand Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.
