2025’s Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans was an epic rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles in what is likely to go down as one of the most legendary Super Bowls. From an incredible runaway win for the Eagles to Kendrick Lamar’s show-stopping halftime show, it will certainly be talked about for some time. Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, Disney, and Apple brought ads for new films, while Sony Pictures, Lionsgate, and Warner Bros. sat out the big game. The Super Bowl movie spots in 2025 were lighter than usual, with many of the film ads made up of previously released footage. Here are all the Super Bowl Big Game TV spots for upcoming films, ranked.

9’Jurassic World Rebirth'

June 02, 2025

Audiences got their first look atJurassic World Rebirthfive days before the Super Bowl. However, thetrailer was largely overshadowedbyThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsteaser, which debuted the day prior. Universal Pictures is counting onJurassic World: Rebirthto be one of their biggest movies of 2025, giving it the prime Fourth of July weekend slot. The Super Bowl spot was just a shortened 30-second version of what had previously been seen, making it a bit of a letdown.

Had this 30-second teaser been audiences' first look atJurassic World: Rebirth, with a full trailer set for release later in the week—similar to how Disney handledSolo: A Star Wars Storyfor Super Bowl LII in 2018 (which the Philadelphia Eagles also played in)—it might have been more exciting. However, simply showing a shorter version of what had already been seen, with no new footage or a big, awe-inspiring final shot to get audiences talking, made this spot feel like a disappointment. Thankfully, Universal Pictures opted to air it during the pre-game rather than during the main event.

8’How To Train Your Dragon'

June 03, 2025

Despite it being only 14 years since the original film, DreamWorks and Universal Pictures are remakingHow to Train Your Dragonand positioning it as one of their major summer titles. While the teaser trailer that aired in November beforeWickedlargely recreated the iconic scene of Hiccup (Mason Thames) meeting Toothless, the Super Bowl spot provides a better look at new footage showcasing the breathtaking flight sequences—now in live-action.

The biggest issue with thisHow to Train Your Dragonspot is the same as with the teaser trailer: it appears to be a shot-for-shot remake of the animated film. This creates an uncanny valley effect, where the semi-realistic set design clashes with costumes that look overly artificial, while the dragons retain their cartoonish designs. However, the main selling point remains the incredible flight sequences, which were a highlight of the original film and made it a must-watch in 3D. A new trailer forHow to Train Your Dragonis expected to be released on Wednesday, hopefully providing a clearer reason why this perfectly great animated film warranted a live-action remake.

August 11, 2025

Audiences got their first look at theSmurfsteaser earlier in the week before the Super Bowl. However, what made this teaser slightly more fun was the way it played with audiences' expectations—using Rihanna’s hit songDon’t Stop the Musicto make it seem like a concert announcement, only to reveal that it’s actually aSmurfsmovie. Rihanna is voicing Smurfette, following in the footsteps of Katy Perry and Demi Lovato, continuing the trend of pop stars taking on the role.

We can’t saySmurfslooks particularly good, mainly because the trailer appears to recycle the plot of 2011’sThe Smurfsmixed with 2017’sSmurfs: The Lost Village. However, the trailer was a fun piece of marketing—the kind of playful misdirect one expects from a Super Bowl ad. At the very least, it showed that some thought went into the ad.

6’M3GAN 2.0'

July 29, 2025

Towards the end of the game, audiences might have been caught off guard by an ad featuring Chappell Roan’sFemininomenon. With a figure dancing, it initially seemed like something related to the popular music artist, but it quickly revealed itself to be everyone’s favorite cybernetic killer, Megan (orM3GAN, if you prefer), performing the viral dance from the first film in an ad for her sequel,M3GAN 2.0.

While this was the same debut teaser trailer that played a week prior at the Grammys (where, funny enough, Kendrick Lamar also dominated the evening), airing it during the Super Bowl for millions of viewers who likely missed its initial debut was a smart way for Universal Pictures to maximize their investment in the teaser. Plus, its placement towards the end of the game—long after most movie trailers had aired—helped make it an even bigger surprise. Horror movies don’t often get major Super Bowl spots, but Universal Pictures clearly has a lot of faith inM3GAN 2.0as a potential breakout summer hit.

5’Novocaine'

August 19, 2025

Novocaineis the latest film on the release schedule and one of the few original movies to go all in on a Super Bowl spot. Starring Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, and Jacob Batalon,Novocaine’s Big Game spot was primarily about introducing the film to a general audience who might not be aware of its release. After all,Novocainedoesn’t have the same brand recognition or years of familiarity as titles likeJurassic World: Rebirthor any Marvel movie.

The spot is largely a retread of footage from the previous trailer, but it effectively emphasizes the novel premise and the thrilling action that stems from a protagonist who can’t feel pain. While it doesn’t quite have the impact of a major Super Bowl spot, in all fairness, Paramount Pictures screened the trailer during the pre-game.Novocaineis the kind of high-concept film that used to define the blockbuster movie scene before major IP brands took over, so its inclusion at the Super Bowl felt like a welcome return to form.

Tim Robinson & Sam Richardson’s Super Bowl Ad Is Like a Bonus Episode of ‘I Think You Should Leave’

Fans of the surreal sketch show can tune in once again to the comedic genius of Tim Robinson.

4’Lilo & Stitch'

August 17, 2025

The originalLilo & Stitchhad one of the all-time great marketing campaigns, inserting Stitch into classic Disney animated films to showcase his anarchic tendencies. For the upcoming live-action remake, Disney is taking a similar but slightly different approach. Instead of placing Stitch into recreations of Disney’s live-action remakes, they’re dropping him into a series of themed ads. So far, these have been limited to Disney releases, with teaser trailers appearing beforeMoana 2andMufasa: The Lion King. Now, Stitch has crashed the Super Bowl.

After the coin toss, the broadcast cut to a commercial break. Anyone who blinked might have been surprised to see what looked like live coverage of a football field, with reporters urgently discussing something running loose on the field. The camera quickly zoomed in to reveal Stitch, causing the kind of chaos fans would expect from him. WhileLilo & Stitchis still three months away and no actual footage from the film has been shown, Disney is taking a refreshingly creative approach to marketing the movie. They understand that audiences will likely seeLilo & Stitchregardless and are already familiar with the story, so they’re leaning into a more playful campaign. If audiences weren’t aware of the live-actionLilo & Stitchbefore, they likely are now.

The Super Bowl marks the end of football season, and the teaser forF1(Top Gun: Maverickdirector Joseph Kosinski’s follow-up) shifts the focus to Formula One racing. While it didn’t air as part of the official Super Bowl coverage, Apple released the trailer a few hours before kickoff on game day, making it count as a Super Bowl ad by association, as it was clearly intended to draw attention alongside the other major trailers. Starring Brad Pitt,F1delivers an atmospheric teaser that puts its exhilarating race sequences front and center.

F1andNovocainewere the only Super Bowl spots for films not based on pre-existing IP, making them stand out even more.F1gets the slight edge thanks to its breathtaking race cinematography. While Apple has been shifting away from large-scale theatrical releases following box office disappointments likeKillers of the Flower Moon,Argylle, andFly Me to the Moon, hopefully,F1will be the surprise hit that turns their fortunes around.

20 Movies That Had Really Unique Trailers

Movie trailers are a fun and exhilarating way to introduce audiences to some of the cinema’s most buzzed about, upcoming spectacles.

2’Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning'

Why didJurassic World: Rebirthrank so low compared toMisson: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, even though neither featured any new footage? Part of it comes down to howMission: Impossible – The Final Reckoningcrafted its spot—not just a shortened version of a previously released trailer, but a unique ad that repurposed the same footage to stand apart. The trailer has a great atmosphere, and its somewhat somber tone strongly suggests that this will be the final entry in the franchise.

Another factor working inMission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’s favor was its expert editing. Over the course of the 30-second spot, the aspect ratio gradually expands to match the intensity and increasing scale of the action, culminating in a full-frame shot showcasing the IMAX spectacle of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt hanging onto a biplane. This trailer subtly communicates to viewers that this is a film not just meant for the big screen but specifically for IMAX. Additionally, before the game even started, Tom Cruise’s introduction—encouraging the Eagles and Chiefs to “challenge the impossible” to kick off Super Bowl LIX—was a nice touch that gaveMission: Impossiblea major presence right at the start of the event.

1’Thunderbolts*'

June 20, 2025

To quote Red Guardian from the firstThunderbolts*trailer, “That’s what I talk about!”

Yes, theThunderboltsSuper Bowl ad delivered exactly what fans want from a Super Bowl spot. It aired a 30-second broadcast teaser, announcing that the full trailer was available online. This 2-minute and 23-second trailer arrives right afterThe Fantastic Four: First Stepstrailer dominated the previous week and just ahead of the premiere ofCaptain America: Brave New World, ensuring it will play in theaters before that film.

TheThunderbolts*trailer is a lot of fun, with the use ofNothing’s Gonna Stop Us Nowby Starship serving as a great anthem for this ragtag team of antiheroes. The trailer directly addresses fans’ immediate concerns about the lack of Avengers in the MCU, with Yelena Belova even acknowledging a common criticism when the roster was first announced—pointing out that this team of super soldiers and spies can mostly just “punch and shoot.” Rather than ignoring this, the film leans into it, establishing theThunderboltsas true underdogs facing a far greater threat. While it stops short of officially revealing Lewis Pullman’s Bob as The Sentry, fans get a few brief glimpses of him, showcasing just how powerful and dangerous he is.

Thunderbolts*looks to capture the fun team dynamic that fans love fromThe AvengersandGuardians of the Galaxyfilms, setting the stage for an exciting start to the summer movie season.
