Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie Happening with Ewan McGregor?

Back in October, a rumor surfaced that Disney and LucasFilm are developing a newStar Wars trilogycentering on the iconic Obi-Wan Kenobi character, played by Alec Guinness in the originalStar Warstrilogy, and by Ewan McGregor in the prequels. The original report revealed that the story would be set betweenStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the SithandStar Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, the same time period that the first spinoff, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One and the animated TV seriesStar Wars Rebelsis set in. Today we have yet another report that claims Ewan McGregor is in talks for an “unknown” project at LucasFilm, which could be the first part of this rumored trilogy.

There were rumors that Ewan McGregor’sObi-Wan Kenobicould show up in December’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a “force ghost,” but an unidentified source claims that Disney is courting the actor, “not to be a force ghost, but for a post-Episode III Kenobi.” The same source claims there have been rumblings that Disney wants a whole Obi-Wan Kenobi trilogy of movies, which would exist outside of the Anthology movies. Of course, since the story takes place in the same time frame as Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, it’s possible that Ewan McGregor could first have a cameo appearance here before starting his own trilogy, but, we have no confirmation regarding any of these details yet.

The unidentified source goes on to claim that the trilogy would follow Obi-Wan’s adventures as he keeps a close eye on a growing Luke Skywalker, and that there may be the possibility of Luke’s uncle, Owen Lars, and evenStar Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menacevillain Darth Maul appearing in this trilogy. Although he was killed inStar Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul, originally played by Ray Park}, was brought back to life in theStar Wars: Clone WarsTV series, which is part of theStar Warscanon, so it’s possible that we could see him come back on the big screen as well.

As divisive as the prequel trilogy was for longtime fans, Ewan McGregor’s performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of the few bright spots, so it would make sense to bring him back and explore his character even more, especially given the approximately 30-year time gap betweenStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the SithandStar Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.
