A recent update has added new customization options for PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes to the PlayStation 5 home screen. By allowing PS5 users to customize their home screens to include recognizable images from previous console generations, Sony is capitalizing on gamers’ nostalgia as it celebrates PlayStation’s 30th anniversary in December.

In September, Sony first unveiled its plans for the PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, but those initial announcements proved to be only a preview of what was to come. The Shapes of Play product line, e-sports competitions, game updates, and exclusive playlists were only the start of what has turned into a month-long celebration of nostalgia, and it’s not quite over yet. There are now some personalization options available for the PS5’s notoriously non-customizable home screen.

You Can Customise Your PlayStation 5 Home Screen with Nostalgic Themes

When PS5 users boot up their consoles after installing the most recent update, they will be presented with the option to commemorate the brand’s 30th anniversary.

Players who follow the instructions are presented with five options for their home screen: PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, 30th Anniversary, and PlayStation 2.

While“PlayStation”includes an overlay that resembles the PS1 console, the first option shows the button shapes of the PlayStation at the top of the screen.

Choosing the PS2 option makes the overlay look like the PS2 startup screen, and the PS3 and PS4 options replace it with the wave designs from those systems’ home screens. It may not be as flashy asthe sold-out 30th anniversary PS5 Pro consoles, but it’s a neat touch.

In addition to altering the look of the home screen, each customization option makes use of the sound effects from the console of the user’s choice. Although Sony stated that the custom screens would only be available for a short period of time, it is unclear how long they will be available.

It’s unclear at this time whether these personalization features will follow the same schedule as thePlayStation 30th Anniversary game sale, which ends on December 20.

Fans Don’t Wanna Let This Feature Go

These options are a welcome surprise, even though they might not be the customization features that fans have previously requested. Unlike some other limited-time offerings, they are free of charge and are the most recent in a series of celebrations that Sony did not mention when it first announced the anniversary. And now fans want this feature to be permanent.

This fan doesn’t want Sony to make this feature limited time.

This fan has perfectly explained the situation.

The whole community wants this feature to be permanent.

Another fan thinks this will only make sense if Sony makes it permanent.

This fan too wants to keep it.

On June 18, 2025,PlayStation will formally celebrate its 30th anniversary. During that month, there will be new promotions as well. It’s unclear if Sony has any last-minute surprises planned, but even without any last-minute announcements, there’s plenty to be happy about.
