Developer Odd Object has announced their debut project, Scrubbin' Trubble, during the MIX Summer Game Showcase. This is a tactical roguelikeindieexperience with 4-player co-op with a team that includes people who previously worked on indie hits, including Cadence of Hyrule,UFO 50, and Catacomb Kids.

A Clean’em Up Indie Roguelike with Multiple Classes

The concept behind Scrubbin' Trubble revolves around a unique subject: cleaning. Either alone or with a party of other players, you have to explore a very unclean place called The House. It’s up to your group to fight against the creatures that spread filth around.

10 Best Roguelikes For Beginners

Roguelikes can be an incredibly tough genre to get into, but there’s quite a few that are easy to pick up and play, and this list compiles the best.

Players can choose six different classes inspired by RPGs but with a thematic twist. The options range from the Bubbaladin, a close-quarters combatant who can take some punishment, to the Bleacher, who cleans out enemy waves by sniping them down from afar.

Other already revealed options include the Washbuckler, who can push back enemies with attacks, and the Frothbarian, who fights filth with fists. Mixing and matching a good team will likely impact the viability of the run, so smart coordination with your partners is part of the experience.

Procedural Filth Erasure in the House Dungeon

When it comes to combat and exploration, the game follows a turn-based style akin to the classic Mystery Dungeon series. As such, movement will be an important way to control the pace of the experience, though it might be more complicated with multiple players, which is a unique element for a game of this nature.

Since the game is a roguelike, each floor of the House is generated randomly, with the run ending by either the whole group being wiped out or reaching the end. In the final stretch, it’s possible to fight against one of the big bad guys called the Four Filths of the Apocalypse. As that name indicates, humorous bits are included in how monsters, items and classes are called in the game and players can look forward to fighting them using a “Wiper Rifle” or a “Splash Bang.”

In the debut video, we get to see a little of the experience, with the characters dealing with the dangers of the dungeon. As they go around cleaning the areas and fighting monsters, they will have the chance to gain various items and equipment. It’s also possible to see how areas may be filled with grime and filth and the characters will truly make it all clean and pick up the garbage left behind.

Depending on your performance, you’ll gain high scores and have the chance to further upgrade your character as you go down. According to the developers, the learning curve will be accessible, and the game will be designed so that players can enjoy the experience even if they can only play it in short bursts.
