In thisPath of Exile 2article, we will be taking a look at how to put togetherthe Elemental Spear buildfor you to use to get into the late-game or end-game of the game.Path of Exilehas become notorious for the sheer amount of skills and build possibilities available in the game, and the sequel follows suit with an extensive skill tree and multitude of skill gems. This guide is here to help you get through all that and lay out a path for you to follow as you reach the end of the campaign and prepare for your cruel playthroughs or endgame.
Introduction
The Elemental Spearis a ranged-focused build that will enable you to deal with your enemies before they get a chance to get close to you. For this build, we will be focusing on increasing our elemental attacks and allowing them to chain into different elements, making it possible to deal with any kind of enemies regardless of their elemental resistances.
Starter Class
For this build, we will be starting withthe Huntress class, which is one of the seven available for now.
On the expansive skill tree, the Huntress classstarts on the southeast side. This side of the skill tree consists mainly of passives related to evasion, attack speed, and flat increases in projectile damage, which we will take advantage of to maximize our damage.

Passive Skill Tree
Progression for this build will focus mainly on enhancing our elemental damage since we will be taking advantage of all the elemental attacks available when using the spear as aHuntress.
During early progression, you can either go through the attack speed route or the movement speed route—whichever you prefer—as both branches will go down to the elemental skill group.

The first important skill group we will be taking full advantage of for this build includes thePrimal Sunderingnode.
This branch increases our elemental damage, and if you want to increase your damage even further, you can increase physical damage by investing in the parallel branch as well.

As we progress further down the southeastern branch of the skill tree, we will come across aJewel Socket.
While leveling up, you can slot in any jewels you may have come across on your journey, as they will be a central part of the build. If you’re lucky, the jewels can have increased elemental damage that will boost the damage output of this build even further.

From here, we will work towards the core node that will define this build:Elemental Equilibrium.
This node will allow us to increase our damage using the elements even further, as hitting with one element will inflict an elemental weakness to a different kind.

This allows us to cycle through all the elemental attacks in our arsenal to inflict maximum damage output.
From there, we will work towards another skill group that enhances our elemental damage and contains nodes such asForces of NatureandEmboldened Avatar.
For the Ascendancy, we will be choosingthe Amazonpath for the Huntress to go with this build.
The Amazon Ascendancy gives us the ability to infuse our weapons with elemental damage depending on the charges we consume, which allows us to increase our elemental damage even further.
Active Skills Setups
For the active skill rotations, we will be taking full advantage of the skills available to the spear weapon and rotate through them to deal maximal damage.
The first skill available for the build and the start of our skill rotation isExplosive Spear.
By itself, the skill throws down a flaming spear that detonates with a huge explosion after a while. This is great for dealing with mobs and dealing fire damage.
The second skill is theLightning Spearskill, which throws a lightning-infused spear that branches into chain lightning on hitting an enemy, with a high innate chance to shock enemies.
The third skill isGlacial Lance. This skill throws an ice-induced spear that damages everything in its path, leaving a trail of ice. It’s great for chilling and freezing enemies and is excellent for dealing with mobs.
These three skills make up the core of this build as we cycle through them to deal massive amounts of elemental damage.
This is made possible through theElemental Equilibriumpassive skill node, which inflicts elemental exposure. We can cycle throughExplosive Spear, Lightning Spear, and Glacial Lancein that order to maximize our damage as they follow the sequence of elemental exposure.
Following this rotation is enough to deal with the mobs the game throws at you, but these can be further amplified by other skills such asCull the Weak.
Cull the Weakis an execute skill that can instantly kill an enemy low on health in a single strike. This will be shown with a blue indicator on top of a weak enemy.
Whenever you cull or kill an enemy with this skill, you gain a Frenzy Charge. You can have up to three Frenzy Charges by default, and these will amplify all of the elemental spear attacks by increasing their damage, area of effect, and overall effectiveness.
Although the above-mentioned skills are those we will be using most often, they are not the only ones.
The Storm Lanceskill places a spear that periodically zaps nearby enemies, acting like a turret.
This is very useful against groups of ranged enemies or when enemies are funneled through a narrow passageway.
Another useful skill isBarrage, which increases the number of attacks you deal with the follow-up attack or skill.
The number of attacks can be further increased byFrenzy Charges, potentially increasing the number by up to four times. This can be extremely useful in combination with skills likeStorm Lance, where you can place multiple spears to deal lightning damage to enemies.
Support Gems
Since we will be doing a lot of kiting around enemies with this build, we’ll look for gems that increase the efficacy of our skills as well as overall speed.
ForExplosive Spear, we prioritize theFast Forwardsupport gem, as it shortens the duration before the spear explodes, making it easier to hit enemies even without a Frenzy Charge.
TheMagnified Effectsupport gem increases the area of effect and works well withExplosive Spear and Storm Lance, allowing you to cover more ground with each thrown lance.
Another good support gem isOverabundance, which allows you to place an additional lance on the ground. It works especially well withStorm Lanceas it also increases the lance’s duration.
If you’re looking to maximize the effective area ofExplosive Spear or Storm Lance, theExpansesupport gem is also a good option, as it increases the area of effect by 50%.
However, it comes with the downside of increasing the skill’s cooldown by 8 seconds.
ForLightning Spear, theChainsupport gem increases effectiveness by improving chaining after the initial strike, giving a higher chance of inflicting shock.
Another damage-boosting gem isMurderous Intent.
This allowsLightning Spearto cull enemies below a certain health threshold. Combined with chaining, this lets you cull multiple enemies in one shot.
An early support gem to grab isMartial Tempo, which you’ll slot intoGlacial Lance.
This increases the speed of the skill by 20%, decreasing time spent in the attack animation and allowing for faster execution.
Another gem that works well with this skill isEncumbrance, as it increases the slow inflicted by the chill effect.
A support gem great forCull the WeakisExecute, which increases damage dealt to low-health enemies and raises the culling threshold, boosting the skill’s effectiveness.
Another great combination of support gems to use with this build isEnvenom and Corrosion, slotted into spear throws.
Envenomallows you to poison enemies with regular attacks, whileCorrosionbreaks their armor if they are poisoned, significantly increasing your damage output.
Spirit Gem
We’ll useWind Danceras the Spirit Gem for this build. It gives increased evasion while charges are active and knocks back enemies withGaleforcewhen you’re attacked.
These Wind Charges offer valuable survivability when surrounded.
Another useful spirit skill isCombat Frenzy, which grants Frenzy Charges whenever you inflict Freeze or Shock.
Since you’ll often be applying elemental status effects, this provides a steady way to gain Frenzy Charges without relying solely onCull the Weak, making it especially valuable against elites and bosses.
Gear and Equipment
This Elemental Spear buildrelies heavily on elemental spear throws and benefits from evasion-based gear with increased attack speed, movement speed, and Dexterity.
Rare items with bonuses to attack and movement speed are very helpful. Rare gear that adds elemental damage to weapons also increases damage output, even with basic attacks.
Leveling Guide
The build is efficient at dealing with large groups of enemies and gives you little trouble with mobs.
As you level up, it’s beneficial to invest in some Intelligence nodes to equip more support gems and increase your mana pool.
you’re able to start investing in Evasion nodes for survivability or Elemental nodes if you want to focus on raw damage and utility.
Mapping and Bossing
While you can clear mobs during mapping quite fast, bossing is a major strength of this build. You can kite bosses and deal consistent damage with spear throws.

Combined with armor corrosion from support gems, you may keep pressure on while dodging attacks.
Efficient gameplay involves alternating between elemental attacks for maximum output, allowing you to take down even the toughest bosses quickly.
Endgame Scaling and Optimization
Endgame scaling is enhanced through cluster jewels that increase Attack Speed, Movement Speed, and Elemental Damage. This build scales well by investing in either pure attack damage or Critical Hit chance/damage and benefits from high-Dexterity gear to further boost output.
This build performs well in SSF and Hardcore thanks to its high damage and mobility. It’s not reliant on expensive uniques and offers great damage with fast-paced movement, leading to satisfying gameplay.
