Quick Links
With the newestNo Man’s Skyupdate, we can now finally build ourselves starships. The game doesn’t go out of its way to explain it, but it’s quite easy to get started on building your dream ship in the game, but it’s going to require you to gather plenty of other ships for you toscrapfor parts. The only step that youcan’tscrap ships for is thereactor core. Reactor cores will costnanitesbut are relatively easy to get.
Getting Started
First thing you’ll need to do to get started on ship building is to make sure you have aminimumofthree shipsof the same type that you are willing to let go of. Each ship you scrap allows you to choose between scrapping the cockpit, wings, or the engine. You must also know that not every available ship is going to be part of this as well. The more unique ships are not going to be eligible for scrapping individual parts. You’re allowed to go over what is available to scrap without scrapping the ship itself, and you’re giventwo promptsto make sure that you are okay withscrapping the ship.
The shipsnot availablefor part scrapping are the Exotics, Sentinel Interceptors, Living Ships, Shuttles, and Solar Ships. Making a new ship is limited, but still a fun new addition to No Man’s Sky and, hopefully, it’s going to be built upon in further updates.

Scrapping Starships
Once you have some ships ready for scrapping, you’ll want to head to your system’sSpace Station. Once there, you’ll head to thescrapping modulenext to theship buildingandcharacter customization modules. In the scrapper module, you’ll want to select which part you want to remove from the ship. You’ll only get one choice for this between the main starship components, so make sure you pick the piece you like the most from each ship. Do this a total ofthree times, and then you’ll be ready for making that new ship. All the starship pieces willgo directly into your inventory, so you don’t have to go looking anywhere special for them.
You can also get a reliable number of starships for cheap by buyingdistress signal mapsfrom acartographerat the space station and bring some of those crashed ships back to life. If you have any sparenavigation data, you can get some parts quickly from these maps. Not every signal is going to bring you to a crashed starship, but you will still benefit from getting lots of nanites and units from this as well.

Buy a Reactor Core
For this next step, you want to head to theTechnology Merchantat the Space Station. He’ll have a few different options depending on how much you’re willing to spend on each reactor core. If you have a betterstandingwith a specific faction, you might want to jump to another system with that preferred faction in control of it. Once you’ve got to the preferred system for the Space Station, you’ll buy that reactor core. Your options to choose from are just as you’d expect.C,B,A, andSclass reactor cores are available for purchase at technology merchants.
Building Your Ship
Now you’ll have your three ship pieces ready for the physical ship appearance and then the required reactor core. Go to thestarship building modulenext to thescrapping moduleand get to work on making the ship of your dreams. You have three choices of what to build here as well. You can create aFighter,Hauler, orExplorerthat also require different types of starship pieces.
Fighter Starships need wings, thrusters, and a fuselage.

Hauler Starships need wings, thrusters, and a cockpit.
Explorer Starships need a left wing, a right wing, and a hull.

Once you have these required pieces for your preferred ship type, you’ll get to work. Select the pieces in the module, insert the reactor core, and then you’re good to go! You have a new starship in No Man’s Sky that’s now your own vision of what you’ve always wanted.
