Transformers: The Last Knightis going to the dogs. Literally. Much has been said about directorMichael Bayover the years, much of it not great. Though he is one of the most financially prolific directors of all time, he has been accused of being misogynistic and his movies are very often critically panned, even if they are financially very successful. Though, his latest move should be plenty to earn him at least a little good faith with the general public.
Baytook toTwitterto announced that he has cast “Britain’s loneliest dog” Freya inTransformers: The Last Knight. Freya’s story recently gained some media attention as she has spent her entire six year life in a kennel and has been rejected roughly 18,000 times over that period. Here is whatMichael Bayhad to say about the decision to put Freya in the movie.
“Found this in the news last week in the UK. We gave the Loneliest Dog, a role inTransformers. Freya, has epilepsy and has been in a shelter her whole 6 year life.We are also going to find her a home. If not she will come to my house. Welcome to the cast Freya! #Transformers”
Freya’s story started making the rounds recently and though many people latched onto it, she still hadn’t been adopted as her epilepsy makes it very tricky. WithBaystepping in, regardless of what you think of his movies, his name has pull and he will definitely make sure that Freya has a better life from here on out. Worst case scenario at this point, she gets a bunch of attention on the set ofTransformers 5and gets to go live withBayat his mansion. Much better than spending another six years in a kennel, no doubt.
Though the release ofThe Last Knightis still a little more than a year away and production has only been under way for a short while,Bayhas been very forthcoming with announcements about his fifth installment in what has become one of themost successful movie franchisesof all time, despite how critics may feel about it. The director also recently announced that Megatron would be returning as a villain in the film and thatAnthony Hopkinshas joined the cast in an unspecified role.
The four films in theTransformersfranchise have grossed nearly $4 billion worldwide to date and are showing no signs of slowing down. Granted, the reception forAge of Extinctionwas less than favorable on the critic side of things and though it made a lot of money, fans seemed a little disappointed by it. With some of the movesBayhas been making, it feels like he and the studio are taking this next installment very seriously and in the case of Freya, trying to do some good as well. If nothing else comes fromThe Last Knight, at least Freya has found a good home and will have a better life. If we could get a decentTransformers movieout of the deal as well, that would just be a bonus.
