Luciferis coming back for season 5 on Netflix. However, the news comes with something of a bittersweet taste, as this will be the show’s final season. Netflix stepped in and saved the DC Comics TV series after it was initially canceled by Fox last year. The streaming service has done this for several beloved TV shows in the past and now, they’re going to give fans a proper conclusion.
It’s been announced byNetflixthatLuciferseason 5 will officially serve as its end. While that may be a bummer in some ways, it’s also welcome news, given that season 4 ended on something of a cliffhanger. So, at the very least, there will be some resolution. And since the creators know heading into this season that it will be the last one, they can treat it as such and do their best to make it satisfying. Showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich had this to say about the news in a joint statement.
“We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix forresurrecting our show last season, and now letting us finish the story of Lucifer on our terms. Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!”
A video was also shared on the show’s official Twitter account of leading manTom Ellis, who stars in the title role ofLuciferMorningstar. Ellis was running around like a madman screaming his head off in excitement. He appropriately punctuated the video with the line, “I’ll see you in hell.” Netflix had this to say about the season 5 pickup in a statement.
“We’re thrilled that ‘Lucifer’ fans around the world have embraced this series on Netflix, and we can’t wait to give them the big finish they’ve all been waiting for.”
Luciferstarted life on Fox in 2016, as the network was looking to get in on the comic book adaptation game. They decided to let the show go following season 3. Netflix then stepped in to rescue the show. They released a 10-episode season 4 very recently on May 8. Apparently, they were happy with the number of people who tuned in, as they were relatively quick to announce the pickup.
The cast for the series also includes Lauren German as Chloe Decker, Kevin Alejandro as Dan Espinoza, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Maze, Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez and Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin. Season 4 brought in some fresh faces, such as Inbar Lavi as Eve and Graham McTavish as Father Kinley. It hasn’t yet been revealed whenLuciferseason 5 will make its way to Netflix, nor has it been revealed how many episodes the final season will consist of. This news was first reported byTV Line.
