Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, animated by Mappa Studio, has managed to be named as the “most in-demand animated TV show” of 2023 by Guinness World Records, beating out every other anime released on the same year by a huge margin.
How Jujutsu Kaisen’s Demand was Calculated
Ever since 2020, Attack on Titan has managed to keep the Guinness World Record formost in-demand animated TV show, managing to be a staggering 68.2 times higher demanded than the average TV show. Even with the finale of Attack on Titan airing in November of 2023, Jujutsu Kaisen has still managed to take the spot with a global demand rating71.2 times greaterthan the average show with its Shibuya Incident Arc.
The calculations behind determining this Guinness World Record are managed by the data-science firm Parrot Analytics, who determine the overall demand for a show based on the numerification of attention, engagement, desire, and viewership from consumers.

To be more specific, theirDES (Demand Expression Score)calculates the demand score using sophisticated algorithms that can gauge statistics such as video consumption fromdownloadsorstreams, social media engagement such ashashtagsandlikeson instagram, as well as many other factors. Video consumption has the largest weighting in this calculation, so more people watching a show will greatly contribute to the calculation of its overall demand.
Jujutsu Kaisen Overshadows One Piece and Attack on Titan
Before the Shibuya Incident arc, Jujutsu Kaisen was still behind the likes of One Piece in their Demand score, with One Piece managing a relatively consistent 60-70x rating for average demand, and Jujutsu Kaisen with 40-50x. Once the second part released in July of 2023, the series saw an explosive development in social media engagement, as well as overall video consumption, leading it to a score peaking at128xby the end of the year.
It is interesting to see how a new-gen anime can top shows with incredible longevity such as One Piece and Attack on Titan, but it goes to show just how easily a critically acclaimed Shounen can become an instant trend. Nowadays, even with no new episodes airing, Jujutsu Kaisen still manages an average demand of 41x, being the most watched anime with a majority Gen-Z audience.

With 2024, there will likely be other anime that take the spotlight for the Guinness Record, such as Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Demon Slayer’s 4th Season, Oshi no Ko, or maybe even One Punch Man Season 3 if it comes out this year.
