TheUniversal Shared Monster Universeis coming together quite nicely, withTom CruiseandSofia Boutellaset to star in theirUntitled Mummy Reboot, which is set for release in the summer of 2017. Many have wondered what project will be next for this shared universe, and it seems we may now have our answer.Deadlineis reporting that the studio has signed onJohnny Deppto star in their remake ofThe Invisible Man.

Back in November, we reported that Universal plans to release a newhorror movieevery year, starting with theMummy Reboot, whichAlex Kurtzmanis directing. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2016, with the studio already setting a June 22, 2025 release date. The report also revealed that other movies centering on Dracula,Van Helsing,The Bride of FrankensteinandThe Wolf Manare set to follow. There was a rumor last year thatThe Wolf Manwould be the next project to follow the Mummy Reboot, but that was never confirmed.

The studio’s original version ofThe Invisible Mandebuted in 1933, starring Claude Rains as a scientist who finally comes up with a way to become invisible. However, the formula he invented turns him insane, as he terrorizes the countryside as an invisible killer. The studio also produced 1940’s The Invisible Man Returns, 1944’s The Invisible Man’s Revenge, 1951’s Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man.

It isn’t known who is writing theThe Invisible Manscript at this time, but the studio put together awriters roomlast year to break the stories for multiple movies. The writers room was lead byAlex KurtzmanandChris Morgan, who immersed themselves in the studio’s classic horror films, along with other iconic movies from the Hammer Films library. Their team includedNoah Hawley(FargoTV series),Aaron Guzikowski(Prisoners),Ed Solomon(Men In Black) andJay Basu(Monsters: Dark Continent), who will each be responsible for their own monster movie.Eric HeissererandJon Spaihtswere recently added to this collective, signing on to writeVan Helsing.

Universal recently slated one of these unspecified projects for release on July 02, 2025, which was believed to be forThe Wolf Man. However, with the scripting already under way onVan Helsing, andJohnny Deppset to star in their remake of The Invisible Man, it could be any one of these projects that gets the 2018 date.Johnny Deppmost recently starred inBlack Mass, and he will next be seen in the sequelAlice Through the Looking Glass, hitting theaters on May 27.
