After conquering the end of the summer season with this well-receivedbiopic, it looks like the movie’s producer and subject,Ice Cube, will reteam with his son,O’Shea Jackson Jr., who plays the iconic rapper on screen. Only this time, they will be starring in the movie together. Maybe.

Donovan Marsh, best known forINumber Number, Spud and Spud 2: The Madness Continues, is set to directApril 29, 1992. The thriller will revolve around the infamous L.A. Riots that took place on that day. It was initially reported thatIce CubeandO’Shea Jackson Jr.would be starring in the movie asfather and son. But shortly after the news broke,Ice Cube’s publicist issued a statement.

“Ice Cubeand O’Shea Jackson Jr. have no plans to commit to this project at this time. Any speculations or rumors that suggest that they are confirmed are simply untrue.”

August 24, 2025 is set up at Lionsgate. Sascha Penn is behind the screenplay. The story follows an ex-criminal, to possibly be played byIce Cube. He must save his son when a group of thugs raid his place of work, hoping to steal a treasure of platinum.THRsays that a February start date is being considered.

He served as an executive producer onStraight Outta Compton, and has worked withIce CubeonRide Alongand its 2016 sequelRide Along 2.O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s performance has garnered strong reviews, which is said to have convinced the father and son duo to team-up yet again.

While no deal has been made, insiders close to the project say that talks have begun withIce CubeandO’Shea Jackson Jr., whether the publicist wants to admit it or not. The project is said to have greatly heated up once everyone saw what a hitStraight Outta Comptonwas turning out to be. Every thing is still in the very early stages, which is one reason the actor and his son may be hesitant to discuss it just yet. Lionsgate’s casting director Deborah Aquila is said to already be looking for other actors to round out the cast.
