Michael Engler directs theDownton Abbeymovie from a script by Julian Fellowes. Producers include Gareth Neame, Liz Trubridge and Julian Fellowes. The cast is headlined by Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Matthew Goode, Harry Hadden-Paton, David Haig, Geraldine James, Robert James-Collier, Simon Jones, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Tuppence Middleton, Stephen Campbell Moore, Lesley Nicol, Kate Phillips, Maggie Smith, Imelda Staunton, and Penelope Wilton.
In the hugely anticipated big screen releaseDownton Abbey, The iconicCrawley familyare preparing for a visit from the King and Queen. This latest sneak peek debuted on NBC’s morning showTodayalong with a Twitter drop. Hugh Bonneville got in on the fun with this message to fans.
“Mrs. Patmore, please prepare some of those corns that go pop. I believe Mrs Levinson left a bag of them in the Blue Room on her last visit.”
If that doesn’t put you in the warm and buttery mood for moreDownton Abbey, I’m not sure what else will. Thus far. Focus Features isn’t revealing too much of the plot, with some fans going as far as to call the movie more ‘anticipated’ thanAvengers: Endgame. Though it’s doubtful The Crawleys will be able to top that Marvel monster at thebox office, it’s expected to bring back quite an audience who have been starved for another go around.
The setting is 1927, a couple of years after we last saw The Crawley family, and they are anxiously awaiting a visit from King George V and Queen Mary. The Crawley’s army of servants are seen hastly preparing for this occasion, and in turn, Michelle Dockery’s Lady Mary finds herself forced to ask retired head butler Carson, played by Jim Carter, to return to the estate.
Direct Michael Engler is a veteran of the show, having helmed four episodes including the two-hour 2015 Christmas special which doubled as the series finale. So he knows something about turning the Crawleys into a feature length endeavor. The movie was originally announced back in the summer of 2018, with production kicking off in September of last year. The first teaser arrived in December around the Holidays.
Downton Abbeywill hit UK theaters early on September 13. Those of us in the States will have towait until September 20to watch it here.
