Criticism towardsCD Projekt REDregarding Ciri’s face—yes, once again—has prompted the person responsible for the upcomingThe Witcher 4to respond and put the matter to rest.
What’s Going On with The Witcher 4?
Since CD Projekt unveiled the new installment in the saga at The Game Awards 2024, following The Witcher 3, not a single day has passed without controversy.
Perhaps the idea of Geralt hanging up his boots and Ciri becoming the new protagonist hasn’t sat well with some, but it’s possible to criticize such a decision without resorting to insults over the character’s appearance.

The problem is that, for many, this seems impossible. From the very first moment, they noticed that the Princess of Cintra didn’t look like she did inThe Witcher 3.
Things escalated when, in a video released by the Polish studio on February 27, they detailed the creative process behind the trailer shown in December 2024.

At various points, it seemed as if Ciri had a different face and features, leading many fans to believe that her design had been altered due to the criticism. However, nothing could be further from the truth.
Sebastian Kalemba, director of the upcoming The Witcher 4, took to Elon Musk’s social media platform to clarify the situation, making it very clear that nothing had been changed—it was just different stages of production.

CD Projekt Clarifies The Controversy Over Ciri’s Face
“The behind-the-scenes video shows the same in-game model of Ciri that was seen in the original trailer—we haven’t modified it.
“What you’re seeing is raw footage, without facial animations, lighting, or virtual camera lenses,” Kalemba stated in his post.

“Although it is still within the engine, it represents a work-in-progress image taken before we applied cinematic touches to that video.”
We can’t see the tweet he was replying to, as the author has deleted it, but Kalemba concluded: “This variation is a natural part of the game development process.

“At this stage, any aspect of a character may vary depending on the medium—whether it’s a trailer, a 3D model, or in-game footage.” Hopefully, that clears things up for those in the back.
Despite CD Projekt denying that Ciri’s face inThe Witcher 4has changed, many still won’t believe them.
