It’s coming fast: in less than two months,Borderlands 4 lands on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC—launching this September 12.

Nintendo Switch 2 users will have to wait just a little longer, as Gearbox has confirmed the release date forOctober 3on that platform.

With a more ambitious gameplay scope, top-tier visuals, and a more mature narrative, Borderlands 4 is going full throttle on its promotional push—and it’s doing so by putting the spotlight on itsexpansive open world.

A Seamless World Powered by New-Gen Hardware

According to Gearbox CEORandy Pitchford, the game world will be massive and, more importantly,seamless—all thanks to current-gen hardware.

“With the memory power of today’s consoles and PCs, we can stream huge volumes of data at high speed into CPU-accessible memory,” Pitchford explained.

He admits it’s all “technical talk,” but highlights that it meansno more loading transitions between biomes.

“We no longer have to use those typical chokepoints—like narrow corridors—to mask the loading of the next area.”

The result? A wide-open world with complete freedom—something that also benefits themain storyand anon-linear campaign.

“Less Borders, More lands”

Asglobal creative director Andrew Reinerpoints out, players will eventually be faced with choosing betweenthree major destinations.

“You can explore them however you like, and each one leads to massive regions. It’s the biggest world we’ve ever built for Borderlands.”

Pitchford sums it up with a clear philosophy:“Less borders, more lands.”

Borderlands 4 Performance on Switch 2 Confirmed

Borderlands 4 is coming to Switch 2—but there’s a catch. Randy Pitchford reveals performance and packaging details.

“Our goal from day one was never to limit the player,” he adds. “We did the opposite—and that’s become the team’s mantra.”

Just like past entries, this new chapter will also feature ahigh-profile music artistfor the game’s introduction. Gearbox has collaborated with some iconic bands in the past, and this time, they’ve been working on avery special trackfor over five months.

“I’m still obsessing over it,” Pitchford says.
