Borderlands 4 is coming to PC and current-generation consoles this year, and it’s the latest entry in the looter shooter series that started it all. Gearbox Software continues using Unreal Engine for the development of all their titles, and Borderlands 4 is built on Unreal Engine 5 this time.
Borderlands 4 is now up for pre-order across all platforms, and Gearbox Software has given us an early look at the technical side of the PC version with the official system requirements for Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 4 System Requirements
The developers have shared these requirements on Steam, but there isn’t any mention of the target resolution or framerate. On the higher side, you’ll need a modest Ryzen 7 5800X paired with an RTX 3080 with 12 GB of RAM. I’m assuming the minimum side likely refers to 1080p at the low settings, and for that, you’ll need something like an RTX 2070. Compared to Borderlands 3, there is a decent jump in requirements this time.
An SSD is required, no matter the settings you play at, and you need 100 GB of free space to install the game. I’m assuming this only refers to the main game, because the expansions will most certainly increase the overall size, just like in the past releases. Finally, 32 GB of RAM is recommended, which is slowly becoming the default requirement for modern AAA releases.

If I had to guess, the recommended specifications likely target 1440p. I’m sure the release will have DLSS, FSR, and XeSS, and I hope to see a more comprehensive breakdown of the requirements in the future.
Borderlands 4 Release Date
Borderlands 4 is coming to PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series S|X, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2 onSeptember 12, 2025.
The PC version of Borderlands 3 was mostly solid, and you could get a pretty consistent experience with a few tweaks. It’s very easy to run on modern hardware, though I am concerned about Unreal Engine 5 and the frequent stuttering issues it exhibits in a lot of titles. I hope that Gearbox Software is working hard to optimize the title because Borderlands is a fairly popular franchise on PC, especially on Steam.

When he isn’t spending an unhealthy amount of time in Slay the Spire, he’s probably trying out yet another retro-shooter or playing Dark Souls for the 50th time.
