A recently revealed character trailer forBaldur’s Gate 3has drawn at least one comparison to one of the most memorable and notorious NPCs in all ofThe Elder Scrolls' lore.
Posted on Sunday by developerLarian Studios, the introduction for Naaber pulls no punches regarding how irritatingly he behaves towards the player character. Singing an off-key rendition of the famously popular “Happy Birthday” song (yes, the same one you’ve probably been sung your entire life) to get your character’s name, Naaber can also be seen and heard trailing the player character and spouting off obnoxious commentary.

“There’s a character who’s written to be intentionally, incredibly annoying, and people who’ve played the original games will likely recognize certainly the line from which he’s descended,” Associate Writing Lead Chrystal Ding explains in the character introduction. “So the minute you meet him, he starts following you around, constantly pestering you, and you can try to tell him to shut up, and he just doesn’t.”
The character is voiced by popular Twitch streamer Cohh Carnage, whocommented on Redditshortly after the video was posted, “I’ve been training my entire life to play a super annoying guy.” Ding jokingly noted during the video that you could (in the game or in real life) push Cohh Carnage into the river, although she discourages anyone from doing so in real life.
As Ding mentioned Naaber’s lineage, it’s likely that he’s the descendant (or at least inspired by) an overly talkative character known as Noober from the originalBaldur’s Gate. Saidone Reddit user, mikeymoonshjne, of the similarities between the two, “Ahahaha i wonder if there will be a reward for putting up with him like there is with Noober.”
The character is already drawing a lot of attention and appreciation, as well as at least one comparison to The Annoying Fan, a character from The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, who constantly follows you after you become the Arena grand champion and even resurrects every few days if you or something else kills him.
If you’re eager to get your own annoying follower in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll be able to do so when the full version of the game launches for PC on August 3 and on PlayStation 5 on September 6.
