With production starting next summer in Australia on the highly-anticipatedAquaman, new details about this superhero adventure are finally starting to come in. A new report reveals what working title thisDC Comicsadaptation will have when principal photography gets under way, while a new DC Comics cover will showcase cartoon versions of starsJason Momoaas the title character andAmber Heardas his queen, Mera. Unfortunately, no plot details have been confirmed yet, but hopefully it’s only a matter of time before we know more about the story.

Production Weeklyrevealed in its December 1 edition that, whenfilming beginsonAquamannext summer, it will have a secret working title ofAhab. So, for fans in Australia next summer, if you see signs for a film calledAhab, it will actually be forAquaman. Most major studios use working titles likeAhabto help keep their productions a secret from the press and fans snooping around movie sets. Now that the working title is out, we’ll have to wait and see if it has any impact on the production. TheAhabtitle is most likely a reference to Captain Ahab from the iconic novelMoby Dick.

In related news, a new comic book cover has been revealed, which features cartoon versions ofJason Momoa’s Aquaman andAmber Heard’s Mera. This comic book cover is forTeen Titans Go!#20, which will be released in time for Valentine’s Day 2017, featuring Aquaman and Mera alongside a number of DC Comics' other iconic couples, such as Batman and Catwoman, Raven and Beast Boy, and there are evenSuicide Squadversions of Harley Quinn and the Joker. While it seems unlikely that this comic will shed any light on theAquamanplot, it will be a fun holiday-themed tie-in to the movie on Valentine’s Day.

We reported last month that pre-production has gotten under way at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast of Australia, the same studio whereThor: Ragnarokwas filmed earlier this year. Filming onAquamanwill also take place at Leavesden Studios in the United Kingdom. As for the actual story, directorJames Wanalso recently teased that there will beadventure romanceelements toAquaman, comparing it to the 1984Michael Douglas-Kathleen TurnerblockbusterRomancing the Stone. The director says that the story starts out withAquamanandAmber Heard’s Mera “not quite clicking with each other,” and that Mera is not someone you would want to “mess with.”

As of now, the only other confirmed cast member, aside fromJason MomoaandAmber Heard, isWillem Dafoe, who will first be featured inJustice Leagueas Nuidis Vulko before having an expanded role inAquaman.James Wanis directingAquamanfrom a script byWill Beall, based on a story byJames Wanand DC Films presidentGeoff Johns. Warner Bros. has set a August 02, 2025 release date forAquaman, which puts it betweenThe Flash(July 24, 2025) andShazam(July 09, 2025).
