Frank Grillois one of the most popular action stars for audiences looking for a violent way to pass the time on free streaming sites, but he has also been making his presence felt in James Gunn’s DCU,voicing Rick Flagg Sr inCreature Commandos, and playing the character in live-action in bothPeacemakerSeason 2 and next month’sSuperman. Recently, the actor revealed that he is having much more fun working with James Gunn than he did in the MCU.
Grillo made his MCU debut as Crossbones inCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, and subsequently made small appearances inAvengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil Warand as an alternate version of the character inAvengers: Endgame. However, overall Grillo believed that his character was worth so much more than he received. Speaking at FAN EXPO Dallas (via ScreenRant), where he appeared in support of the upcoming third season ofTulsa King, Grillo said:

“It was unfortunate because Crossbones isn’t onscreen that much, and this is years ago. People love that character, and Marvel seems to have reused every other character except Crossbones. Now he’s popping up in Spider-Man comics and Daredevil comics because he’s a great villain, so I was expecting to have a lot of fun with it. But unfortunately, he perished kind of quickly. But I love working with James Gunn. I did the voice for Creature Commandos, and then I’m in Peacemaker, which is coming up in August. And before that, it’s Superman with Rick Flag. So, it’s different; it’s more of an adventure than the Marvel stuff was.”
Frank Grillo Says His Rick Flag Sr. Character Is Everywhere in the New DCU
The action-movie star spoke to MovieWeb as his new film Long Gone Heroes — which also includes Andy Garcia and Melissa Leo — was released.
Frank Grillo Returns to the DCU in ‘Superman’
As Grillo noted, he will be making his live-action DCU debut as Rick Flagg Sr. inSuperman. With his role having been teased in several trailer clips for the movie, the actor recently addressed the film, and David Corenswet’s portrayal of the titular superhero.
“With David there’s something very Christopher Reeve about him. He encompasses this aura. There’s something about this guy…I don’t know if I could articulate it, but I was like ‘oh, this guy is Superman.”

That is exactly what many fans want to hear – apart fromfans of Henry Cavill’s version of the Man of Steel, of course – and withSupermanlooking to potentially break not only DC records but Warner Bros. Pictures’ opening weekend record, it seems that there will be plenty of people getting eyes onSupermanwhen it arrives in cinemas on July 11.
For Grillo, he will then make another appearance as Flagg Sr. in the highly anticipated second season ofPeacemaker. Where his character goes from here is not yet known, but from his comments he certainly seems to have a much more permanent place in the DCU than he did in the MCU.
